Elk Creek Outfitting is licensed to hunt the Cabinet Mountains in Montana (Kootenai & Lolo National Forests), as well as some amazing private land. We have trophy hunts for all big game animals, elk, whitetail, mule deer, mountain lion, moose, bear, sheep, mountain goat & buffalo. Immediately following the close of elk and deer season is the December 1st opening of mountain lion season. Southwestern Montana and the Bitterroot Mountains have a reputation for an excellent lion population and highly successful hunts. We only host 4 lion hunters per year and our goal is to send everyone home with a cat. Regulations permit the harvest of male cats only and our houndsmen take great pride in knowing the travels routes of these big toms as they search for deer in the lowlands. Clients are based at the Rocky Knob Lodge and we rise at 2:00 a.m. each day to begin the search for a hot track. Depending on weather conditions we may use 4x4 trucks, 4 wheelers, or snowmobiles to cover the backcountry. Once a track is located we wait until first light and the chase is on. There is nothing quite as action packed as a winter lion hunt. With many opportunities for pictures or video and a nice mount these hunts are sure to make lasting memories. Rick Wemple has established himself as one of the West's foremost Lion Guides. The Cougar Hunts run in December and January. The Cougar population is at an all time high. I use dogs for the chase on these big cats, snowmobiles, 4-wheel drive vehicles, and snowshoes for transportation on these hunts. Everything except your own personal gear and license is furnished. We recommend the use of a handgun or archery on a cougar hunt. License & tags are now on a drawing.

Mountain lion season opens December 1st. Our area has a tremendous mountain lion population which continues to increase. For the past 19 seasons all clients have collected a fine trophy. The lions harvested usually range from 110 lbs. To 185 lbs. At this time of year the pelts are in peak quality and make exceptional life sized mounts. Our 100 percent success rate speaks for the quality of our dogs and guides. We offer hunts with rifle, handgun, bow or camera.
